Senior Maikai Gahan scored 20 points, including six 3-pointers, as Waiakea rallied past Hawaii Prep 65-62 in overtime Friday night to reach the championship game of the Waiakea-Keaau boys basketball classic.
Lucas St. George added 15 points as the Warriors won for the third consecutive day on their home floor to win the Blue Bracket.
Waiakea also got some clutch free-throw shooting from junior Cody Kojima (5 of 6 from the line) to edge Ka Makani.
Senior guard Kalan Camero scored 18 points for HPA, which led 46-40 after three quarters. Nicky Palleschi and David Ovbagbedia each added 14 points and Justin Gecas had 12.
Waiakea was scheduled to face Konawaena at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Keaau High in the title game. The Wildcats defeated Pahoa 60-55 to finish first in the Red Bracket.
Waiakea, under head coach Paul Lee, and Konawaena, under head coach Donny Awa, are expected to battle for the BIIF’s D-I title this year.

Hilo 55, Kaiser 54: Jalen Carvalho took over with 30 points as the Vikings edged the Cougars.
Austin Dante had 15 for Hilo. Teammate Jordan Caoagdan made the game-winning free throw with no time remaining to win it.
Tairus Hill paced Kaiser of the Oahu Interscholastic Association with 16 points, and Kelsey Lewis had 12.
The Cougars are considered one of the top Division II teams in the state this year under first-year head coach Branden Kawazoe.

Kohala 67, Kealakehe 64: Mikala Jordan’s 15 points and 14 from Ryan Caravalho powered the Cowboys.

Tolby Saito led all scorers with 28 points for the Daggers, and Keinan Agonias had 19.

Keaau 59, Ka’u 40: Edgar Ventura put up 15 points and Isiah Segobia contributed 10 as the Cougars pulled away from the Trojans.

Kamehameha-Hawaii 63, Kamehameha-Maui 50: The Big Island Warriors used Rylan Kiko’s 19 points and 10 from Bayley-Allen Manliguis to prevail.
Keawe Rindishbacher and Erin Lindsey each chipped in with 17 points to lead the Warriors.

St. Joseph 48, Keaau JV 25: Michael Silva tallied a game-high 24 points and Cole DeSilva added 11 as the Cardinals notched their first victory at the tournament.
