EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The University of Hawaii is involved with a new center at Michigan State University that aims to look for better ways to preserve roadways.
The Michigan State University Transportation Center on Highway Pavement Preservation will lead a national group whose mission is to develop strategies for extending pavement life.
The new center is getting $1.4 million for its work during the first year and will be funded through 2017.
According to Michigan State, the center will focus on three areas: Improved materials to extend the usable life of highways, coming up with ways to monitor roads for problems or damage and looking at ways to best manage such roadways for long use.
Others involved include University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Texas at Austin, University of Minnesota and North Carolina A&T State University.
