During the week of Dec. 2-8, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunken driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 19; South Hilo, 3; Puna, 2; and North Hilo, 1.
So far this year, there have been 1,238 DUI arrests compared to 1,385 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.6 percent.
There have been 1,243 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,375 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.6 percent.
So far this year, there have been 25 traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island compared to 37 during the same period last year, a decrease of 32.4 percent.
To date, 13 of those fatalities have been linked to impaired driving: five to drugs; two to alcohol; and six, a combination of both.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
