Starting today on Kilauea Avenue in Hilo, one-lane, one-way travel only in the southern (Puna-bound) direction will be in effect Monday-Friday 6 a.m.-6 p.m., weather permitting. Message boards will inform motorists of the traffic pattern, according to a written statement from county Public Works.
The new traffic pattern will start from the Aupuni Street intersection and end at Wailoa/Waiakea Stream Bridge next to Hale Maile condominium.
Normal traffic patterns will continue on Kilauea Avenue from Hale Maile condominium.
The Aupuni Street intersection will be temporarily closed to motorists during construction hours.
Street parking will be available to merchants within the construction zone during roadwork with the exception of Tuesday, Dec. 10. Businesses will remain open during construction.
Normal traffic patterns will be restored after roadwork is completed.
