A flash flood watch has been issued for the Big Island beginning at midnight tonight through Friday morning.
An area of low pressure in the middle atmosphere will destabilize the air mass over the eastern half of the state triggering showers and thunderstorms that have the potential to produce heavy rain locally.
Rainfall would be heaviest over the windward slopes and may cause flooding in area streams, canyons and low-lying areas.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service, which also noted that it does not have to be raining heavily where you are for flash flooding to occur.
