The public is invited to a free “Christmas Day Chant and Feast” at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 25, in Leilani Estates near Pahoa.

“Please join us for a celebration of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, as we play music, chant and sing the ‘Holy Names of the Lord’ and offer a wonderful vegetarian feast. We look forward to celebrating with you,” said a spokesman for the hosting Aloha Farms. Call Amanda for directions and more info at 965-9198.

The event is billed as “A Christmas Celebration That Asks: ‘Where Does Real Satisfaction Lie?’” In contrast to the “gift-wrapped emptiness” felt by many at this time of year, the folks at Aloha Farms offer “an opportunity to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas.” There will be kirtan and dancing to live music. Kirtan is an ancient tradition of singing the names of God congregationally. It is a nonsectarian activity for people of any faith.

The evening will finish with the home-cooked vegetarian feast and a bonfire.
