Shirley Virginia Christman, 80, of Mountain View died Dec. 19 at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Olaa, she was a retired medical transcriber for Bethesda Naval Hospital and an artist. Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo; memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by son, Guy Christman of Mountain View; brother, Frederick Tavares of Hilo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Charles “Mel” Melvin Martinson, 94, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 20 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Tacoma, Wash., he was a telecommunications engineer and retired from Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone. He was also a World War II Army veteran. Private services held. Survived by son, David (Dona) Martinson of Kailua-Kona, and one grandson. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawaii.

Murray S. McLean, 73, of Hilo died Dec. 19 at home. Born in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was retired from United Airlines. He was also a member of First United Protestant Church in Hilo and a U.S. Army veteran. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Protestant Church, Hilo. Inurnment at the National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) at a later date. Casual attire. No flowers. Survived by wife, Jane McLean of Hilo; daughter, Marla (Charles) Sabadell of Colorado; son, Mark (Cheryl) McLean of Illinois; sisters, Kathy (Marc) Frank of Ohio, Susie (George) Riecke of Indiana and Julie Armstrong of Indiana; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
