Employees at the Office of the Corporation Counsel joined together to help two families in Hilo celebrate a merry Christmas. Partnering with HOPE Services Hawaii for the second year in a row, they selected two families in need to receive gifts, household items, toiletries and furniture.
Katherine Garson, an assistant corporation counsel, told the staff and the families at a small gathering, “HOPE Services assisted one of our friends and co-workers when she was in need of help. This employee spearheaded this project on behalf of our office, to help other families … we just want to keep paying it forward.”
Corporation Counsel Office employees collected gifts for each family member throughout the year, based on a list that the families created. They also donated household items such as laundry detergent, cookware, a bed, a dresser, a recliner, bedding, as well as purchasing gift cards from Walmart.
“It’s exciting for our office, it makes us feel like it’s really Christmas time,” said secretary Martha Rodillas. “It’s really a feeling of giving back to somebody who is less fortunate than we are. It makes us feel good to do for others, like we are a part of the solution.”
