The public is invited to hear James R. Cook, an international biblical speaker, author and direct descendant of Capt. James Cook, speak at Haili Church at 10 a.m. on Sunday in the main sanctuary at 211 Haili St. in Hilo. A pot blessing time of food and fellowship will directly follow the service in the multi-purpose room.
Cook will bring a vital and timely message, as a part of the Haili Church, Kuhio Chapel and Ohana Hour current focus is on unity.
“Come and be blessed by hearing this incredible man of God,” said Haili Church Kahu Brian Welsh. “He has lived an amazing life of faith and you will be blessed by all he has to share.”
Cook grew up in India as a missionary kid. His book of jungle stories tells of his many encounters with wild animals in that country and the spiritual lessons it taught him. As an adult, he was a missionary in the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
Cook was also the founder of International Baptist Church and International Bible College on Oahu. His current ministry, Indigenous Ministries, focuses on bringing the gospel and pastoral training to a variety of groups of people throughout the world.
“His message is a timely reminder and a strong assurance of faith during difficult and uncertain times,” Welsh said.
