A police log has identified both the bicyclist killed in a Saturday morning collision with a tractor-trailer truck and the driver of the truck on Highway 19 just north of Pukihae Street in Hilo.
The victim was identified as 58-year-old Darwin E. Barve of Hilo and the truck driver as 66-year-old Joseph Cruz Velez Jr. of Hilo.
Barve’s death is the third traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared to two at this time last year.
