MIAMI (MCT) — Smiling and waving for his fans, bad-boy pop star Justin Bieber was released from jail Thursday afternoon, some eight hours after police said he went on a wild, drug-fueled drag-race in Miami Beach.

His release came about an hour after the 19-year-old appeared in Miami-Dade court, via video, appearing far less cheerful than in his beaming police mugshot. Clad in an orange-red prison jumpsuit, his sleeves rolled up to sport his tattooed arms, he let his high-profile lawyer, Roy Black, do the talking — this time.

Bieber was charged with DUI and resisting arrest.

Roadside sobriety tests showed Bieber was under the influence of drugs, Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez said. He declined to comment further, but a police source said Bieber admitted he had been smoking marijuana and taking prescription anti-depressants and had a beer or two.
