HONOLULU (AP) — An invasion of box jellyfish prompted Honolulu officials to close Hanauma Bay over the weekend.
Lifeguards counted more than 50 box jellyfish onshore Saturday and more than 30 people were stung.
Ocean Safety officials were expected to re-evaluate the popular snorkeling spot Sunday to determine if it should remain closed.
Officials said beachgoers going to other south shore beaches on Oahu should also exercise caution.
