The Island of Hawaii YMCA’s financial woes have been helped with a $10,000 donation by the Hilo Y’s Men and Women Service Club.
The proceeds of the Y service club’s annual Christmas tree sale at Ben Franklin Store in Hilo and its Jake Shimabukuro Concert at Maunalani Bay Hotel in December made it possible for this generous donation.
“Thanks to the tremendous support of our island community who bought our trees and attended Jake’s concert, we are indebted to you,” said club treasurer Lance Niimi.
Interim CEO of The Island of Hawaii YMCA Bobby Stivers-Apiki said, “This donation comes at a critical time when the Y is working diligently to curtail its operating expenses.”
The Hilo Y’s Men and Women Service Club was founded in 1938 and last year celebrated its 75th year of service.
The goal of the Y service club is to support its local YMCA and community. Y’s Men and Women Service Club is a member club of the International Y’s Men Service Clubs and the Hawaii Region Y Service Clubs.
