Jamie Economy, a resident of Hilo, earned placement on the Gonzaga University President’s List for the fall semester. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade point average to be listed.
Gonzaga University is a humanistic, private Catholic University in Spokane, Wash.
Order of Eastern Star scholarships
The Order of the Eastern Star Hawaii Chapter No. 1 offers scholarships to the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Hawaii Community College students affiliated with a Masonic organization, personally or through a family member.
Masonic organizations include Eastern Star, Free and Accepted Masons, Shriners, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Rainbow Girls and DeMoley.

Sutton runs track at Carleton College
Kaopua Nani O Sutton, a resident of Hilo, is a member of the Carleton College women’s indoor track and field team for the 2014 season. Sutton is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaii and is currently a senior at Carleton.
Carleton is coached by Donna Ricks, who is in her 20th season as the Knights’ head coach. Carleton is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and NCAA Division III. Last season, 11 Knights earned All-MIAC honors, including two individual titles.
Founded in 1866, Carleton College is a national top 10, private liberal arts college in the historic river town of Northfield, Minn.
HHS alumni group offers scholarships
The Hilo High School Alumni Association will award up to two $1,000 scholarships to current graduating seniors from Hilo High School. Preference will be given to applicants enrolling at the University of Hawaii at Hilo or Hawaii Community College.
To be eligible, students must be graduating Hilo High School seniors who demonstrate leadership ability through participation in school and community activities with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need.
A copy of the student’s most recent transcript and one letter of recommendation must accompany the completed application form. Please review the details on the application instructions.
