HONOLULU (AP) — Bail was set at $1 million for a man indicted Jan. 29 on four counts of attempting to murder police officers.
An April trial date also was set Monday for 32-year-old Nicolas Nakano.
Nakano in December was on parole for auto and identity theft convictions. The parole board Dec. 5 issued a warrant for his arrest for drug possession and other violations.
Police said Nakano on Jan. 23 while driving tried to evade a police officer. They said he rammed another car and flipped his own. Nakano fled on foot.
Police said officers confronted Nakano near Waialae Country Club and Nakano fired a shot from a handgun at an officer’s head. Police said he tried to fire twice more but the gun misfired.
