Rebecca Lee is human after all.
The University of Hawaii’s star shortstop failed to register a hit in a game for the first time this season Wednesday as the Vulcans were swept by Cal Baptist in a doubleheader in Riverside, Calif.
Lee, who entered the game with seven straight multihit games and a robust .658 average, went a combined 0 for 6 as the Vulcans were sluggish offensively, losing 2-1 and 7-1.
After watching Lee homer three times the day before in a split, giving her seven in her last seven games, the Lancers were cautious in walking Lee three times.
After completing its 13-game road trip, UHH turns its attention to its Feb. 22 home-opening doubleheader against BYU-Hawaii.
For the second consecutive day, the Vulcans (6-7, 1-3 Pacific West Conference) got a solid outing from Ashley Nelson followed by a rocking outing from what Jaime Wallin has called a “hodge-podge” of pitchers. Unlike the day before, UHH couldn’t back Nelson (3-4), who allowed six hits and two run in six innings. She walked three and struck out three.
California Baptist (11-2, 3-1) scored twice in the third after the first two runners reached on a hit by pitch and an error.
For UHH, Emily Greene finished 3 for 3, scoring on Melanie Morelos’ RBI double in the third.
Belinda Reene (5-2) scattered nine hits in a complete game.
In the second game, UHH starter Hannah Peterson was hurt by three fielding errors and Marshean August belted a home run as part of a 4-for-4 game, scoring three times.
Peterson yielded six runs — two earned — and six hits in 3 1/3 innings., with two walks and two strikeouts
Kayla Hatch improved to 6-0 for the Lancers in six-inning TKO, allowing only three singles in going the distance.
