Lelome Kahaualoa Rogers, who’s also known as Jerry T. Rogers, appeared Wednesday morning before Hilo Circuit Judge Greg Nakamura for arraignment and plea on state charges of second-degree robbery and second-degree theft when Deputy Prosecutor Joseph Lee informed the court of the federal grand jury action.
Nakamura noted that a federal indictment would supersede the state’s case and scheduled a court date of 9 a.m. March 21 for further proceedings if the feds don’t take Rogers into custody before then.
Rogers allegedly robbed Central Pacific Bank on Kilauea Avenue on Jan. 29. According to police, officers responded to a 1:42 p.m. report of a man handing a 20-year-old woman teller a note demanding money. The woman told police she put $500 cash in a white envelope and handed it to the suspect, who then left on foot.
Rogers was arrested at 2:05 p.m. the same afternoon on Aupuni Street.
