PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP) — American Samoa’s governor is recovering at a Washington, D.C., hospital after being admitted last week for an unknown illness.
Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga is visiting the nation’s capital for a National Governors Association conference and other meetings.
But Lt. Gov. Lemanu Peleti Mauga told reporters Tuesday in Pago Pago the governor felt body pain last Friday and was admitted to George Washington University Hospital for observation.
Mauga said Moliga is “recovering very well” and talking to senior aides. Mauga declined to provide any specifics about Moliga’s illness.
Mauga said the governor plans to return to the territory Monday. But he said Moliga will stay in Washington longer if more tests are needed.
The 64-year-old was elected to his first four-year-term as governor in 2012.
