Police and Fire Inspectors opened an arson investigation after a two-story, unpermitted home on Maui Street in the Hawaii Island Paradise Acres subdivision in Mountain View burned down Tuesday.

Police and Fire Inspectors opened an arson investigation after a two-story, unpermitted home on Maui Street in the Hawaii Island Paradise Acres subdivision in Mountain View burned down Tuesday.

Nine units answered the 11:58 a.m. alarm with the first unit arriving at the scene at 12:17 p.m. to find the walls burned away and only the frame standing. The roof collapsed while firefighters were working to put out the blaze but nobody was injured. The fire was reported under control at 12:25 p.m. and extinguished at 12:45 p.m.

The loss is estimated at $45,000.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and the Red Cross responded to assist those displaced by the fire.
