This spring, Hawaii Energy is offering free, one-day workshops for teachers to learn and teach about energy efficiency in the classroom.

This spring, Hawaii Energy is offering free, one-day workshops for teachers to learn and teach about energy efficiency in the classroom.

The Big Island session is 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo.

There are two types of workshops:

Energy Education: Teaches the concepts of force, motion, light, sound, heat, electricity, magnetism and energy transformations, and

Building Science: Aimed at helping students learn how buildings can become more energy-efficient through various measures such as lighting inspections, measuring electricity plug loads and taking temperature readings.

Participants are eligible to apply for Hawaii Energy Education Grants up to $2,500 and a scholarship to attend the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project’s annual National Energy Conference for Educators.
