For seven years, the Paradise Studio Tour Artist Collective has hosted its Paradise Studio Tour, where local artists open their studios to the public for the sale and display of their art prior to the end-of-the-year holidays. Each year, the artists donate a chunk of their profits to local school art departments.
“The tour has been on the first weekend of December, annually, for the past seven years. This year, there were 12 artist’s studios, with 45 artists in a wide variety of mediums. The weekend tour was a big success, not only for the artists but also for Puna high school art programs,” said artist collective spokeswoman Patti Datlof.
“All artists agreed to donate 10 percent of their sales to local schools for art supplies. A total of $1,800 was given in checks of $600 each to Keaau High, Pahoa High and Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences,” Datlof said. “Paradise Studio Tour artists are committed to promoting the arts in the schools and have made donations totaling almost $9,000 over the past seven years.”
Board member Karen Hagen stated, “We believe in supporting art education in the schools and know that budgets are limited, so we are honored to help students get the supplies they need to have a meaningful interaction with the art world.”
“Many thanks to the artists and patrons of the arts who made this possible,” Datlof said.
