House Speaker Joseph Souki has given Rep. Faye Hanohano a letter of reprimand in response to recent complaints over her behavior.
Calling Hanohano’s conduct unacceptable, Souki wrote in the letter delivered today that he will monitor her behavior and will remove her from committee assignments if other incidents occur in or outside the state Capitol. He also said that he would refer any additional incidents to the House for further disciplinary action.
Hanohano, D-Puna, has come under fire after state Department of Land and Natural Resources Chairman William Aila and a college student submitted complaints about her behavior during legislative hearings.
Aila said her behavior had been “abusive in authority, racially discriminatory, and inappropriate” toward DLNR staff, while the student said the representative had been rude and dismissive toward Westerners during a hearing.
