At its 47th annual meeting and Shinnenkai, hosted Feb. 23, the East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai announced it is offering two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to embark on their post-high school education this fall.
Applicants must be a senior at any East Hawaii public or private high school and must enroll full time at any accredited college or university for the 2014-15 academic year, registering for 12 credits or more.
Applicants must be a child or grandchild of an East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai member. Application forms and instructions are available at the counselor offices at East Hawaii public and private high schools.
Deadline for the 2014 scholarships is April 12; applications must be postmarked by this date.
The Kenjin Kai also honored the Beiju recipients, those who will have attained the auspicious age of 88 in 2014, with a certificate from the Kenjin Kai and a commemorative citation from Gov. Hidehiko Yuzaki of Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
Recipients were: Sadako Kodani, Kazue Makino, Mieko Nagao, Haruo Nakamura, Yaeko Nakanishi, Tomie Shiige, Toshie Taketa, Thomas N. Takeuchi, Stanley T. Tanaka, Katsumi Yahiro, Yuriko Yahiro and Arlene F. Yamagata.
