LIHUE, Kauai (AP) — A salvage plan is being prepared for a shrimping vessel that went aground at Hanapepe.
Hawaii state boating officials said the 55-foot boat was anchored in the bay, waiting to refuel Monday.
Crew members came ashore and no one was aboard when the anchor line either broke or slipped. Authorities responded Sunday afternoon to a report of a boat on the reef. The Coast Guard also was notified.
Officials said no action was initially taken because the vessel was not hard aground. Officials said the vessel remained on the rocks, however, because of a lack of action from the vessel’s captain and crew.
Officials said the center pontoon hull was compromised.
The boat’s owner is working on salvaging the vessel.
