The members of the Hawaii Island Palm Society (HIPS) celebrated the start of the club’s 40th anniversary year with a Night of Palms, Hula &Barbecue on Feb. 7 in Hilo.
More than 170 members and guests attended the sold-out event. Many went home with new palms for their gardens.
Attendees also enjoyed performances by Halau Na Wahine A Na Kane Punahele ‘O Ka Pu‘uwai. The current officers were unanimously approved for another year of volunteer service.
