Ryan Bisel, a member of the Boy Scouts of America, is the newest Eagle Scout of Troop 78.
In August 2013, he completed his Eagle project at the corner of the Hilo High School track field facing Waianuenue Avenue. With the help of many hard-working Troop 78 members and local businesses donating supplies and plants, they were able to complete this ambitious project which is now a beautifully landscaped sitting area overlooking the track field.
A senior at Hilo High School, Bisel is a member of the DECA club and the Hilo High Swim team He also belongs to the Warrior Aquatic Club and swims competitively year round. He spends his free time diving and swimming with his friends.
Ryan celebrated his Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony with his many friends and family on March 9 at the Kuhio Kalanianaole Park. It is customary to have the Eagle Scout say a few words of thanks and to also honor a mentor who has been instrumental in his scouting journey. Ryan chose his older brother, Justin Bisel, who received his Eagle rank in 2008, as his mentor and presented Justin with a special gold mentor pin as a token of his appreciation.
Ryan is one of the few boys who took the scouting journey from the very beginning, as a little Tiger Cub Scout. Ryan joined Pack 78 in 2007 and gave credit to Justin for being such a positive influence and role model throughout his scouting journey. The two brothers are proud members of Troop 78 and have participated in numerous community service projects, camping trips and scouting events together while also learning valuable life long skills thanks to the dedicated leaders and members of Troop 78 Ohana.
Although they will soon be going their separate ways and entering a new phase in their lives, Ryan to college and Justin to grad school, the two brothers will always have that special bond and friendship that will last forever, say parents Leonard and Diana Bisel.
