The Blood Bank of Hawaii has expanded its donor eligibility criteria and welcomes both new and familiar faces to its May donation drive on the Big Island.

The Blood Bank of Hawaii has expanded its donor eligibility criteria and welcomes both new and familiar faces to its May donation drive on the Big Island.

“If you couldn’t donate before, now is your chance,” said spokeswoman Vanessa Sim. “Be a part of our donor community; make an appointment today and save lives.”

Because drives are subject to change, it’s best to call 848-4770 or visit www.BBH.org to schedule an appointment or check on drive information.

To date, this is the schedule:

— Monday, May 5: from 10:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Solid Rock Ministries worship area, 75-5660 Kopiko St., Suite A1, Kailua-Kona;

— Tuesday, May 6: from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at LDS Waimea Hawaii Ward cultural hall, 65-1168 Kapiolani Road, Waimea;

— Wednesday, May 7: from a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Konawaena High School Gym, 81-1043 Konawaena School Road, Kealakekua;

— Tuesday, May 20: from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. in the Hawaii County Police Department training room, 349 Kapiolani St., Hilo;

— Wednesday, May 21: from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Aunty Sally Kaleohano’s Luau Hale main room, 799 Piilani St., Hilo;

— Thursday, May 22: from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Aunty Sally Kaleohano’s Luau Hale, and

— Friday, May 23: from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Church of the Holy Cross meeting room, 440 West Lanikaula St., Hilo.

“Sign up to save lives today. The requirements to be a blood donor are simple: Be in good health, be 18 years of age or older — 17 with signed Blood Bank of Hawaii consent form — and weigh 110 pounds or more,” said Sim. Bring a valid photo ID with date of birth.
