Na Wai Ola (Waters of Life) Public Charter School has been named the state’s Charter School of the Year.
The Hawaii Public Charter Schools Network will recognize on May 15 the small charter school in Mountain View as the top charter school in Hawaii, marking yet another milestone in a remarkable turnaround for the school.
In 2009, the school was almost shut down after the state revoked its charter due to financial mismanagement.
Then-new Principal Daniel Caluya helped to lead the school in correcting its financial books, and since then it has progressively made strides in various areas. In 2011, the school was named the Hawaii Public Charter Schools Network’s “Most Improved Charter School.”
