Hilo’s first official triathlon will start at 7 a.m. July 13 at James Kealoha Beach Park.
The Olympic-distance race consists of a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40K-bike ride and a 10K run and is limited to the first 500 participants.
Registration is $150 through May 31 and $175 until June 30.

Charity tourney
at Hapuna course
Hapuna Golf Course is hosting a “Drive to Fight Cancer” charity golf tournament May 4, and proceeds from the tournament will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge Hawaii.
Entry fees of $100 per person include greens and cart fee, sponsored on-course beverage stations, lunch at Arnie’s post-tournament and prizes. To enter the 4-person scramble tournament, call Hapuna Golf Course at 880-3000 by Wednesday.
Horse Show runs
Sunday in Waimea
The 38th annual Horse Show will be held 9 a.m. Sunday at Hawaii Preparatory Academy.
Riders will compete in 15 play day events and five jumping competitions.
Riders not yet entered in the show must enter before the start of their division for a fee of $10 for the day, plus the regular class entry fee.
The event is free and open to the public.
