BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Battle re-enactments, tours, exhibits and other events are set for this year’s commemoration of the bicentennial of the War of 1812.
The U.S. and Britain fought some of the war’s bloodiest battles two centuries ago this year in Ontario, Canada and western New York.
The Canada-based Niagara 1812 Legacy Council earlier this week announced its list of 2014 events, including a July 5 re-enactment of the Battle of Chippawa, followed the next day by a re-enactment of the Battle of Lundy’s Lane, both in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The annual Siege of Fort Erie re-enactment will be held the weekend of Aug. 9-10 at Old Fort Erie, across the Niagara River from Buffalo.
The Buffalo History Museum’s War of 1812 centennial exhibit remains on display, while Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown holds its annual re-encampment over Labor Day weekend.
