An 18-year-old man was rescued from an island in the Wailuku River on Thursday.
The unidentified man was surrounded by high water near Ululani Street and Wailuku Drive, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department.
Fire Department rescue crews reached him at around 5:17 p.m. Rescuers swam to the island, and brought him to safety with the use of rope tethers.
The man was uninjured.
