Starting Sunday, Maku‘u Farmers Market will charge a $1 entrance fee per vehicle. The money raised will go directly into a fund to build a community center.
“The propose community center will consist of a large gathering hall, two certified kitchens and classrooms. The community center is part of the Maku’u Farmers Association Hawaiian Homestead Regional Plan,” said spokesman Hidi Boteilho.
“Maku‘u Farmers Market has been operating for over 12 years and provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to expand their small business while stimulating our local economy,” Boteilho said. “Motorists should be mindful of this change, as it may affect the traffic patterns near the market’s entrance off of Highway 130.”
