Souza named KITV’s ‘Mom of the Year’

Laupahoehoe’s Violetta Souza was awarded KITV’s statewide “Mom of the Year” award on Friday. Souza, who works as a Pantry 2 Cook at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, was surprised at work by her family and KITV reporter Ann Sterling. Souza’s daughter, Maricar, nominated her mom. In her letter, she shared Souza, among other things, cared for her three children when Maricar was deployed to Iraq. Souza has worked at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel since 1986. In addition to the award, she won a $300 spa certificate.
