University of Hawaii at Hilo senior outfielder Rebecca Lee was voted first-team all-West Region by the College Sports Information Directors of America, making her eligible for All-America honors.
Last week, Lee repeated as the Pacific West Conference’s Player of the Year after winning the batting title with a .504 average.
Piopio Bears sign-ups set
Registration and practice for Piopio Bears’ 8-and-under teams will start at 3:15 p.m. June 3 at the Hilo Armory.
Practices will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, and all registration forms will be available at that time.

Big Dog run Sunday in Hilo
Big Island Road Runners is sponsoring its annual Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph run at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Coconut Island in Hilo.
Registration starts at 6:30 a.m., and two male and two female senior high school students will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship at the event

Hilo High spring football practice
High High football spring training will be held at 2 p.m. May 29 at the school gym for all students interested in playing for the Vikings, including eighth-graders.
Coach David Baldwin asks players to bring bottled water, wear proper athletic attire and running shoes (no surf shorts).
Physical clearance forms need to be filled out to participate, and forms can be picked up at the school’s front office.
Spring practice will run through June 11, when the program will hold its Blue & Gold Game at Hualani Park at 5 p.m.

Pro-Am Surfing Trials upcoming
The Big Island Toyota Pro-am Surfing Trials will begin its wave holding period May 24-25 and continue until Sept. 27-28.
The contest will be held at Honolii Beach Park and is open to Big Island residents for men’s open, women’s open, open longboard (nine feet and more) and open bodyboard.
The entry fee is $60, which includes T-shirt, and the deadline for the first 80 entries is May 23 with late entrants charged an additional $10.
Prizes include 10 round trips from the Big Island to Oahu for a professional surfing contest on the North Shore between October 2014 through March of 2015.
“The contest is a development proving ground for world class surfing talent,” organizer Stan Lawrence said.
