At 9:20 a.m., 12 units, including both county helicopters, responded to the report of a swimmer in distress offshore of the Outrigger Kanaloa condos in Keauhou.
A 60-year-old man encountered trouble trying to make it through the shore break to open water. He was assisted by a swimming companion and a paddleboarder until a rescue boat arrived.
At 2:46 p.m., lifeguards rescued a 61-year-old man who nearly drowned Friday in high surf at Kahaluu Beach Park in Kona.
