at Wong Stadium

The inaugural Big Island Baseball Memorial Day Tournament will feature an eight-team, double-elimination format for ages 13-15, running from Saturday to Monday at Wong Stadium.

The first game will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, with the championship slated for 4 p.m. Monday at Wong. A home run derby will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday. Games will continue through each day. Admission is free.

The deadline to sign up for the Hilo High bowling team is Friday. Tryouts will be announced at a later date, but athletes can pick up forms at the school’s main office or the trainer’s office.

HGEA tennis

fun day June 1

A Hawaii Government Employees Association tennis fun day will be held noon-4 p.m. June 1 at Edith Kanakaole Multipurpose Stadium.

HGEA members and guests are invited to participate in social tennis doubles, and tennis balls will be provided.

Hapuna Beach swimming event

The Hapuna Beach Roughwater Swim, part of the Bike Works Triple Crown Series, will take place June 14 at Hapuna Beach.

Big Island soccer camp at HPA

The Big Island I.D. Soccer Camp will be held June 23 to 26 at Hawaii Preparatory Academy.

The camp ($165 fee) is divided into two sessions:

Youth Camp, Under 7-U14, runs from 8 a.m. to noon.

College I.D. Camp, U15-U18, runs from 3 to 6 p.m.

Guest coaches include:

Jeff Illingworth, former director of coaching at CV Manchester United FC.

Andy Hargreaves has 25 years of coaching experience with clubs including Southern California’s Nomad, Surf and DMVC Sharks.

Vince La Porta, who has coached youth soccer across the U.S. for 15 years while playing semi-pro and professional soccer.
