Pearl “Pearly” Ni’ihau Batalona, 73, of Honokaa, died May 11 at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born in Waipio Valley, she was retired from the Hamakua Sugar Plantation and was the first female heavy equipment operator on the plantation, served as a planning commissioner for the Hawaii County under Mayor Herbert Matayoshi, secretary and member of ILWU Local 142 and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Honokaa Ward and Relief Society. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Honokaa. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kukuihaele County Cemetery. Casual attire. Palani Benjamin Cobb-Adams, 30, of Hilo, died May 25 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a foreman for Ivan Mochida Contracting Company. He was also a member of the Wainaku Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Big Island Auto Club and the Big Island Hot Rod Association. Marina “Maring” Velasco Galingana, 94, of Keaau, died May 13 at her residence. Born in Santo Tomas, Isabela, Philippines, she was a homemaker and a member of The Church on a Sure Foundation in Keaau. Malva Nobuko Imaizumi Ideue, of Saint George, Utah, died on May 23 at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in Saint George. Born in Hilo, she was an accountant for HELCO. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Visitation from 1:30-3 pm. Survived by husband, Keith; sons, Bradley (Ann Togashi) of Hilo, John (Marina) Ideue of Las Vegas, Nevada, daughter, Mari (Dean) Phung of Saint George, Utah, and sister, Ada (Andrew) Kubo of Keaau; four grandchildren and a nephew and niece.

Lohekamakaula “Lohe” Kaaloa, 74, of Hilo died April 18 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a farmer, masonry contractor, executive assistant to the late Mayor Stephen Yamashiro, and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Celebration of life 9 a.m.-noon Friday, June 6 at Uncle Robert’s Awa Club in Kaimu, Kalapana. Lunch to follow. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by son, Lohekamakaula “Lohe” S. Born in Pepeekeo, she was a retired licensed practical nurse for Hilo Hospital and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Visitation will be held from 8-10 a.m. on Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Papaikou; Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m.; inurnment to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire. Noboru “Curly” Mento, 87, of Paukaa, died May 14 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Honomu, he was retired from Hilo Hospital, a U.S. Army veteran and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission.
