Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a man wanted for fraudulent use of a credit card.

The card was reportedly used at a store in Hilo for charges totaling about $176.

The man’s image was captured on a surveillance camera. He’s described as African-American, in his late 20s with a slim build.

Anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts is asked to call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311. Those who prefer anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Police are also reminding merchants to follow proper protocol when making credit card transactions and to be especially cautious when processing large purchases, especially if the credit card doesn’t swipe properly. When in doubt, check with the credit card company.
