Diane “Kara” Dolores Billingsley, 76, of Captain Cook died May 4 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born in San Francisco, she was a retired teacher, an author of poetry and short stories, owner and operator of Karaden Farm and Aloha Ocean Hideaway, co-founder of the Kona Crisis Center, member of Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, Audubon Society and National Wildlife Foundation, supporter of PBS and an advocate for whale conservation, the concerns of food irradiation and women’s rights. Allan Carter Rogers, 62, of Hilo and formerly of Northridge, Calif., died May 30 at his home. Born in Brawley, Calif., he was a co-owner of ACR Dollar + store at the Hilo Shopping Center, retired from AT&T in Los Angeles and was a U.S. Army veteran.
