Teizo Sumida, 94, of Hilo died at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home on April 29. Born in Hilo, he was a retired maintenance worker with the former Naniloa Surf Hotel and a World War II US Army Veteran who served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. He also worked for the former Von Hamm Young, Taka’s Appliance and Teves Refrigeration companies. Private services held. No koden. Survived by sons, Brian (Judith) Sumida of Oakland, Calif. and Dean (Sandra “Sandi”) Sumida of Hilo; daughter, Janne (Cullen) Fujimoto of Mililani, Oahu; brother, Shizuo (Doris) Sumida of Pepeekeo; sisters, Itsuko “Judy” (Harold) Nakagawa of Monterey Park, Calif., and Ritsuko Olson of Hilo; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
