Lehua Hawaii Productions will present its third annual Achievement Pageant on Saturday at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo. Pre-pageant entertainment starts at 6:20 p.m. with the drummers from Puna Taiko. The pageant starts at 630 p.m. Tickets will be sold for $12 at the door.
The current Young Miss Lehua Hawaii is Kaelia Saniatan and the reigning Miss Teen Lehua Hawaii is Kali‘a Wasson. The newly crowned titleholders will compete in the State Miss Hawaii High School and Miss Hawaii Junior High School pageant in January on Oahu. State winners will go on to compete in the national pageant in Orlando in the summer of 2015.
The following are vying for the teen title: Kaleipualehua Tam, 16, a student at Ke Kula Nawahiokalani Opuu and the daughter of Stacy Tam and the late Kiha Tam; Kianie Sampaga, 16, a junior at Waiakea High School and daughter of Georgie and Daryl Sampaga Sr.; Charity Laa, daughter of Donald and Claudine Laa, who attends Pahoa High School; Kepola Ishikawa, a freshman at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii, daughter of Debbie Sasan and Clyde Ishikawa; Valerie-Lee Howland, a senior this fall at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii, granddaughter of Irvin and Charlene Howland; Meghan Kualii, a Kamehameha senior and daughter of Thomas and Leah Kualii.
The following contestants are in the Young Miss competition: Kiana Lei Vallente, an eighth-grader at Keaau Middle School, daughter of Coral and Abraham Vallente; Haley Rose Kea, a student at Kamehameha and daughter of Toni and William Kea; Karlie Anne Fernandez, an eighth-grader at Waiakea Intermediate School and daughter of Peter and Jayla Fernandez; Shadelin Kaaihue, eighth-grader at Pahoa Intermediate, daughter of Leimomi Wright and the late Kapono Kaaihue Sr.; Ashley Falces, daughter of Eva Braman and Stanford Klask, an eighth-grader at Kamehameha; Angelina Ramirez, seventh-grader at Kamehameha, daughter of Christie and Robert Ramirez.
