The Akaka Falls Lions Club was named the Best Club in Division II at the recent annual state convention of The Hawaii District 50 Lions at Kapalua, Maui. Division II competition is for clubs having between 26 and 49 members throughout Hawaii.
“This recognition is both humbling and flattering for all of our Lions here in East Hawaii,” said 2014 Akaka Falls Lions Club President Blayne Hanagami. “Credit truly goes to the many hard working Lions who diligently serve without need for compensation or reward; but we are grateful to our district for this award.”
Chartered in 1963, the Akaka Falls Lions Club is best known for its work with in the following areas: vision and hearing screening efforts in public schools, Weinberg Foundation Grants for nonprofits, literacy programs for youth, Laupahoehoe Leo Club, domestic violence prevention, highway and park cleanup projects, honoring veterans and more.
