A $2,278,800 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration will help improve security at Hilo International Airport, U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) said Wednesday in a written statement.
“Investing in our airport infrastructure is critical to ensuring our state’s transportation system operates safely and securely and our tourism industry remains strong,” Schatz said.
“This important grant will strengthen the security at Hilo International Airport, protecting travelers and airport staff.”
The grant will support the installation of a 12,500-foot perimeter fence to help prevent security breaches and deter unauthorized persons, vehicles and wildlife from entering onto the airfield.
