Officials at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., announce that Emma Kimata of Hilo is one of 15 Fulbright Fellows from Smith this year. She was selected to be an English language teaching assistant in Malaysia starting in January.
As the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program, the Fulbright Program was founded in 1946 by U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright to increase mutual understanding between people of the U.S. and other countries.
Kimata graduated from Smith cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts double major in Education &Child Study and Liberal Studies in May. She is the daughter of Gary Kitahata and Arlene Kimata of Hilo and is a graduate of Hilo High School and Malamalama Waldorf School.
