The age for the legal purchase of tobacco products in Hawaii County, including electronic smoking devices, will go to 21 on Tuesday and the law requires signs to be posted by retailers at the point of tobacco sales.
The law imposes fines on retailers who sell tobacco products to underage consumers and who fail to post the required signs.
Signs were sent to all registered tobacco retailers in May, according to a written statement issued by the county. Additional signs are available at the mayor’s offices in East and West Hawaii or by contacting East Hawaii Tobacco-Free Coalition Coordinator Sally Ancheta at 936-2686 or sally@tobaccofreehawaii.org.
