The Hawaii Community College Office of Continuing Education and Training is once again offering its unique “Agriculture: Science Series” classes. These classes expose farmers and gardeners to the science and biology associated with soils, plants, microorganisms, insects and nematodes.
During this class, students will learn complex biological processes in an easy-to-understand and simplified way. Farmers who have taken this course have stated they wish they would have learned these concepts years ago, because understanding these concepts would have reduced their farm management costs and work time immensely.
Classes will be held in Hilo at Hawaii Community College and Pahoa at Kua O Ka La Public Charter School. The nine classes are being offered individually, as an a la carte style series where the students can enroll in all of the classes or just a select few. The Pahoa classes will begin July 25 and will continue every Friday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. for nine weeks. The Hilo classes will begin July 26 and will continue every Saturday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. for nine weeks. The tuition cost is $39 per class. To enroll in these classes, call OCET at 934-2700.
