A new $5.9 million fire station is expected to be built on Haihai Street in Hilo next year, according to a draft environmental assessment.
The approximately 12,000-square-foot station would be built on state land across from Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
It would replace a smaller station on Kawailani Street, and provides additional space needed for emergency medical services, according to the EA published Tuesday. The document says the station would be built by the end of 2015.
