HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu police say a suspect has been taken into custody after a fatal shooting Sunday in Kahaluu.
A 60-year-old man was shot at about 12:15 p.m. in a home. The wounded man died at a hospital. Police searched for the suspect by air and on foot.
Police say the 18-year-old suspect was initially held on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.
Skydiver suffers serious injuries
HONOLULU (AP) — A skydiver experienced a hard landing Sunday at Dillingham Airfield and suffered serious injuries.
The 20-year-old man was injured just before 9 a.m. at the airfield near Waialua.
Emergency Medical Services personnel say he suffered multiple injuries. He was taken to a hospital.
Escaped inmate found on Maui
WAILUKU, Maui (AP) — Sheriff deputies have captured an inmate who escaped from the Maui Community Correctional Center.
The state Department of Public Safety says Junior Jorju was found Monday morning hiding in the back parking lot of the Harbor Lights condominium complex in Kahului.
Jorju, 40, was discovered missing during a Saturday night headcount at the jail.
Officials say he was serving a two-week sentence for driving without a license and criminal contempt of court. He was scheduled to be released in six days but now faces an additional five years for an escape charge.
It’s not yet known exactly how he managed to escape. Maui police are investigating.
Motorcyclists crash; man dies
HONOLULU (AP) — A 26-year-old motorcycle driver died after a weekend crash with another motorcycle.
The two bikes collided early Saturday on the Likelike Highway on-ramp to the H-3 Freeway. Honolulu police took a call on the crash at 3:10 a.m.
Police say the motorcycles were part of a larger group. The bikes collided, slid on pavement and struck a guardrail.
A 22-year-old man was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition. His condition was later upgraded to “good.”
Both men were wearing helmets.
