Allan Boesak — author, anti-apartheid activist, professor and pastor — will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Church of the Holy Cross, United Church of Christ.
In Boesak’s recent book, “Dare We Speak of Hope?,” he longs for hope with justice today, in our faith lives and the political realm.
“Allan Boesak is a world-renowned liberation theologian born and raised in South Africa. He was an influential activist against racial apartheid in the 1980s in his home country, where he worked closely with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa,” said Mary Olney-Loyd, interim minister at Holy Cross.
Boesak is the first African ever elected president of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches.
He continues to teach and advocate for social justice, reconciliation and interfaith dialogue around the world.
Boesak is being hosted by the Interfaith Community in Action organization. The gathering will be in the Building of Faith on the campus of Church of the Holy Cross, 460 W. Lanikaula St. in Hilo.

Boesak has been speaking in other United Church of Christ churches across the state this summer.
In June 2013, he was the keynote speaker at the Hawaii Conference UCC ‘Aha in Kona.
