A Kona grand jury has indicted a 44-year-old Honaunau man who allegedly shot his neighbor earlier this month.

The indictment dated July 14 charges Monte Moreau with second-degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting 52-year-old Todd Shaver on July 3. Shaver, who lives in another apartment in the same building, was hospitalized for his wounds at Kona Community Hospital.

A preliminary hearing started in Kona District Court on July 8, but was not finished and was to resume Aug. 1. The indictment will move the case to Kona Circuit Court and preempts the remainder of the preliminary hearing.
